No' money, mo' problems

I was under the impression that this was a low estimate.
Things are great, the apartment is working out very well and this weekend was good times. Band practice is starting to come full circle, as we're reworking the older songs now that I'm on bass and Jeff is doing guitar/keyboard stuff.
So I was thinking to myself in the car yesterday, is is possible to not enjoy life, but absolutely love being alive? I'm not trying to be deep or self-important, but really.. they seem like two different things to me. I'll do what I do with all those ridiculous thoughts, which is write them down and subsequently forget about them.
I like onions now. Not sure why, but they're pretty good. They're like the drunk uncle of vegetables, he makes the whole scene awkward but there are a few times where the laughs are well worth it. Maybe not. Need to eat gum after, though. Onions smell like crap.
Time to sell a Mexican Fender Stratocaster I bought in 2000, with a 50th anniversary neck on it and a Pignose amp. If you know people that need these things, my screenname is 'heismonarchy'. I will go low on the price because I am retarded sometimes, let's call it $250 for the package. Otherwise I rip myself off and sell to a music shop. Money is pretty stupid if you ask me.
Gotta build a document in Word. Yeehawrrgh!

The Coming of Fascism
What happened was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to be governed by surprise, to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believe that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.
The crises and reforms (real reforms too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.
To live in the process is absolutely not to notice it -- please try to believe me -- unless one has a much greater degree of political awareness, acuity, than most of us ever had occasion to develop. Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, 'regretted.'
Believe me this is true. Each act, each occasion is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.
Suddenly it all comes down, all at once. You see what you are, what, you have done, or, more accurately, what you haven't done (for that was all that was required of most of us: that we did nothing)... You remember everything now, and your heart breaks. Too late. You are compromised beyond repair. [A German professor describing the coming of fascism. From They Thought They Were Free: The Germans 1939-1945 by Milton Mayer, a stunning and chilling account of ordinary people in extraordinary times.]

GERICKO
Jericho, CBS - 8pm Wednesdays
Hey everybody, I actually found a network television series that I can tolerate.. and when you search for it, people are talking about how lousy it is.
The story is based on a nuclear explosion that takes place outside a small town in Kansas. Post-apocalyptic network television? It's got my name all fucking over it.
Just watch it sometime, and ignore reviews from shitty snobby internetter people. They're all liars, anyway.

Found @ Daily Kos
There are times every now and again where you just have to step back and behold the absurdity of it all. You have to step back from the day-to-day trench wars and just marvel at how entrenched power really is in this, the country where we still cling to Horatio Alger fables or "anyone can grow up to be president" myths. What I find particularly fascinating is the intricacy and careful calibration of the propaganda system that holds this whole structure up. Like a hall of mirrors, our political debate is, in every way, designed to perpetuate the status quo. But no hall of mirrors can withstand the impact of a big enough tidal wave, which is why those inside the hall are freaking out.
I suggest you read the rest.

Flip-flop
A transcript of the 1992 appearance was tracked down by P-I columnist Joel Connelly, as reported in today's In the Northwest column.
"And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth?" Cheney said then in response to a question.
"And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq."

Myspace Weirdo II: Final Vengeance
Dear Ronald,
Among U.S. publishers, it is still a common typographic practice to capitalize additional words in titles. This is an old form of emphasis, similar to the more modern practice of using a larger or boldface font for titles. The exact rules differ between individual house styles. Most capitalize all words except for internal closed-class words, or internal articles, prepositions and conjunctions. Some capitalize longer prepositions such as "between", but not shorter ones. Some capitalize even only nouns, others capitalize all words.
The convention followed by British publishers is the same used in other languages (e.g. French), namely to use sentence-style capitalization in titles and headlines, where capitalization follows the same rules that apply for sentences. This is also widely used in the U.S., especially in bibliographic references and library catalogues. This convention is also used in the International Organization for Standardization and Wikipedia house styles.
Book titles are often emphasized on cover and title pages through the use of all-uppercase letters. Both British and U.S. publishers use this convention.
In creative typography, for example music record covers and other artistic material, all styles are commonly encountered, including all-lowercase letters.
Sincerely, -Dakota Force, esq.

Wal-Mart's zombie Republican Army
In case you haven't heard, Wal-Mart is sending out "voter guides" to it's 18,000 employees in Iowa, in response to Democratic leaders participating in union-funded events that pointed out the company's shady practices. Wow, that sounds like such a terrible thing to do to a poor, harmless corporation!
Quotes from the Wal-Mart press release:
Wal-Mart has created 240,000 jobs nationwide, with an average full-time, hourly wage of $10.11 – and it’s even higher in urban areas. (Since managers are most likely counted in that average, I don't even want to know what the floor jockeys are making..)
As a result of findings from a recent survey for Working Families for Wal-Mart, Democratic pollster Thomas Riehle explained how "Democrats Make Wal-Mart an Issue at Their Peril."
?! WOW!

Please check out this collection of videos directed by Neill Blomkamp, the man that has been announced as director for the upcoming Halo movie. The collection clearly shows that he is the best person for the job - I'm already fascinated by the first three!

Coming to a theatre near you..
Directed by Oliver Stone, starring Nicolas Cage...
World Trade Center (The Movie)!
??...?! Are you serious? I'm at least thankful that Oliver Stone is doing it, but really.. is it appropriate to do that yet? Anyway, the trailer makes the movie look alright (aside from Nicolas Cage and his abhorrent moustache).
